Protecting Teens Through
Education and Awareness
Our coalition is committed to preventing underage and binge drinking in our county by educating youth, parents, and alcohol vendors on the importance of responsible choices. We provide training for store owners and servers on safe service and proper ID checks, all with one mission in mind: ensuring no underage youth are ever sold or served alcohol. That’s why we routinely conduct Sticker Shock campaigns in local convenience stores and partner with law enforcement on compliance checks to keep our community safe.

Sticker Shock
The Sticker Shock campaign is an initiative of the Obion County Prevention Coalition. Sticker Shock brings awareness towards underage drinking, one of the priorities of the OCPC. The stickers placed on the alcohol products in the store act as “warning” labels to inform the public of the consequences they can face if they provide or purchase alcohol for minors.
Parents, older siblings, older friends, etc. are often unaware that they themselves can get into trouble along with the individual that is not of age. Underage drinking is a serious issue and can be harmful to the individual.
According to SAMHSA (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), adults who had their first drink before the age of 15 were 7 times more likely to experience alcohol problems than those who had not started drinking before the age of 21.
Compliance Checks
Compliance checks are a key part of keeping our youth safe. Our law enforcement partners work alongside us to routinely verify that stores are properly checking IDs and refusing alcohol sales to anyone underage. These checks not only help reinforce safe practices but also build stronger relationships between retailers and the community. We provide education and support to help stores stay prepared and confident in their ID procedures. We proudly support this important effort and make it a priority to recognize the businesses that pass compliance checks for their commitment to responsible service and community safety.
PARENTS WHO HOST, LOSE THE MOST
This is a public awareness program educating communities and parents about the health and safety risks of serving alcohol at teen parties.
The program takes place at state and local levels, concentrating on celebratory times for youth, such as homecoming, holidays, prom, graduation and other times when underage drinking parties are prevalent.
This program encourages parents and the ENTIRE community to send a unified message that teen alcohol consumption is unhealthy, unsafe and unacceptable.
