Preventing Prescription
Drug Misuse
Prescription drug safety is a major focus for our coalition because misuse—whether taking medication not prescribed to you, taking more than directed, or mixing medications—can lead to addiction, overdose, and long-term health risks. Many individuals who struggle with addiction begin with access to unsecured prescriptions at home, which is why prevention starts with proper storage and disposal. As part of the Count It! Lock It! Drop It! program, we provide free lock boxes to help families secure their medications, maintain several permanent drug drop-off locations across the county, and host an annual Drug Take Back Day so unused or expired prescriptions can be safely returned. Our goal is simple: reduce access, reduce misuse, and keep our community safe.
